Artisan, Hessle

We booked in here for the Saturday night Tasting Menu in November, but the snow prevented us from going. We tried to book last night; it was full but the next available table was for Sunday Lunch today. They only do Sunday lunch on the last Sunday of the month. So off we went.

We were given the table just next to this window. It only seats 16, so it's quite small, but the tables aren't too close together. We found it really comfortable. The lady running it and her waitress assistant could not have been more friendly and helpful throughout. Her husband is the chef. I think he works alone, so there can be a bit of a wait for each course, but it is worth the wait.

There were appetisers of savoury popcorn and nuts, then home made bread, before the starters

Confit Duck Leg with Truffled Puy Lentils and Apple Puree

Butternut Squash Soup with Roasted Cherry Tomatoes and Parmesan
For main course we both had the pork:

Sorry this is too dark.. you can't really see the broccoli or the potatoes
Only I had a dessert:
Lemon Posset with Lemon Curd Ice Cream
Then Coffee:

Artisan is the current Reader's Restaurant of the Year for the North East in the 2011 Good Food Guide, is well reviewed in Harden's Guide. If you look for reviews on the internet, you can only find extremely positive ones. I am afraid this is another. We loved it and will be returning just as soon as we can book a table.

Three course Sunday Lunch for two, bottle of beer, Pot of Tea, Coffee - £54ish
