Iris is a recently opened restaurant in the centre of Wakefield. The chef, Liam Duffy, spent part of his early career in the kitchen at the Michelin-starred Burlington Restaurant at the Devonshire Arms in Bolton Abbey, which is one of our favourite places to dine, so we were keen to try out his new venture. We had the Three Course Lunch. This is what it looked like:
From the top, the starters were Smoked Haddock Scotch Egg and Mushroom Soup. Mains were Catch of the Day (Haddock I think) and Ballotine of Chicken. For Dessert we had Pineapple Tarte Tatin and Lemongrass Pannacotta with Passion Fruit Doughnuts.
We loved it all. If you think it looks nice in the pictures, the taste of the food more than lived up to the promise. It would not be a great surprise if this was actually the best restaurant in Wakefield and Leeds combined. It was good value too - these six courses, plus two pots of tea and a bottle of beer came to £34.
